I didn’t stay at the Surety Hotel myself—I was coordinating rooms for our employees—but I had to leave a review because Brooklyn at the front desk was an absolute gem. My brain was fried that day, and she handled my scattered energy like a total pro. Super patient, sharp, and her personality? Loved it. Total vibe. What really blew me away was when I had to call back over a week later—Brooklyn remembered me and the whole situation. She made the process insanely easy and actually enjoyable. That level of care and memory is rare, and it didn’t go unnoticed. Surety Hotel is lucky to have her. If every place had a Brooklyn, the world would run smoother.

I had stayed at a property in West Des Moines that was horrible and I switched to this hotel and I’m glad I did. The room is modern, clean with a very comfortable bed. The lobby area reminds me of staying at an Edition. The restaurant is quite good with exceptional service. A few cons though. When I checked in they gave me a room that was already occupied. You hear a lot of outside noise and the street that the hotel is on attracts a lot of homeless. I’d stay here again if I came back to Des Moines.

This was our first time here and we can’t wait to come back. The location is perfect- we walked around to dinner, some bars and a convenience store, getting back around 10pm or so and felt very safe. The room was so adorable and they had great snacks/drinks to purchase. The bed was super comfy. The shower was awesome. The lobby had the coolest, swanky vibes. Highly recommend!

Lovely hotel, great location, front desk staff (Brooklyn) was exceptionally helpful and welcoming. Other reviewers complaining about paying to park have clearly never stayed in a higher end downtown hotel before - very standard if you are a seasoned traveler. The parking garage adjacent to the hotel was available to use and was perfectly sufficient. Also I heard zero noise from neighboring rooms and the hotel was full. I was on tenth floor and it was quiet with a great view.

The hotel is cute, the room was nice and clean. But my 5 star review is aimed at the service. Josie at the front desk is so lovely. She was kind, helpful and nice to chat with. She is definitely the kind of person you want as the face of your business.

Too many negative experiences to justify staying at this hotel again. The single desk clerk was loud and unprofessional. She was actually surly the next morning when we inquired about where breakfast was available. No room coffee service in this pricey hotel. No free breakfast; just a menu of ordinary offerings with no one to take the order. Lots of drinking and muzak. Out on the sidewalk, a grocery selling liquor and cigarettes next door attracts an element you would not want to pass on the sidewalk. It actually made us feel unsafe in the late afternoon and again early on Sunday morning. The room is nicely decorated, but the cost cutting and the atmosphere in this part of downtown Des Moines is a no-go. Stay over near the bridge and walk to nearby restaurants.

This was our second stay at Surety and, once again, it did not disappoint!!! Upon entrance, the hotel lobby is warm, expansive, beautifully appointed and so welcoming. Front desk staff very friendly, check in was a breeze. |As the hotel does not offer valet parking, and street parking is difficult, we chose to pay a bit extra for the onsite underground parking, located adjacent to the building. Very easy and convenient! |Rooms are large, gorgeous, clean and comfortable. We were in a room facing the Main Street but were 7 floors up, so road noise wasn’t too bad, I’d ask for an upper floor room if you are sensitive to noise, though, as I’d guess lower floor, street facing rooms may be noisy. |We ate at the attached restaurant/lounge and it was great! Good service, great cocktails and yummy food. |This will always be our go to hotel when stopping through Des Moines!

Very disappointed in our interactions with this hotel. My father in law had booked a room for us for our wedding night and he was unable to book because the website was down. Every time he called they told him just wait for the website to be fixed and that he couldn’t book over the phone. At least a month later, they finally fixed the website and he booked. Today, my fiance and I walked into the hotel to see it and ask if we could transfer the reservation to our name. When we walked in, the lady and the front desk did not even greet us but instead said, “if you are here to check in early, we can’t help you” we explained that we are actually there to transfer a reservation and she rudely cut us off and said “Your father in law has to call. I can’t help you.” She didn’t smile and her tone of voice was very off-putting. Due to this very poor customer service, we cancelled our reservation and decided to use a different hotel. I understand that they have policies and that my father-in-law needed to call, but the rude behaviour was uncalled for. If you’re going to work in customer service, maybe try being polite.
